HOW MANY SESSIONS DO YOU RECOMMEND?
There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions, because Educational Therapy is a partnership between the individual student, their family, and the therapist. You are free to take a break from Educational Therapy at any time. Together we will set goals for the student, so that you and they can measure their progress.
Educational Therapists do not promise to remediate learning problems in a certain number of hours of therapy, because learning difficulties and differences are complex and every student and family has unique strengths, difficulties and goals.
DO YOU GIVE HOMEWORK?
Yes! Follow-up activities give the student the practice they need to use newly acquired skills from their therapy session. To gain the most from their Educational Therapy sessions, students need to opportunity in between sessions to practice their new skills. This helps the student grow in confidence as an independent learner and makes the most of the therapy they are receiving. In my experience, students who are supported at home to practice make much steadier progress and retain their new knowledge and skills better than those who don't. Remember, this is a partnership between parents, student and therapist: parent support is vital to success.
